Celebrating Women Who Shape The Future

As we reflect on Women’s Day, we are reminded that this occasion is about more than recognising a single moment in history. It is an opportunity to honour the courage, resilience and lasting contribution of women who continue to shape families, communities, workplaces and the future of our country.

National Women’s Day commemorates the thousands of women who marched to the Union Buildings in 1956. Their bravery remains a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when women stand together, use their voices and work towards meaningful change.

Within education, the influence of women can be seen every day. Mothers, caregivers, tutors, teachers, mentors and staff members often provide the encouragement, guidance and practical support that help candidates continue moving forward. Much of this work happens quietly, yet its impact can last a lifetime.

Women help learners build confidence, overcome challenges and remain focused on their goals. They manage demanding schedules, advocate for additional support, offer reassurance during difficult moments and celebrate every achievement, no matter how small.

We also recognise the young women completing their own qualifications while balancing responsibilities at home, at work and within their communities. Their perseverance, ambition and determination reflect the true spirit of Women’s Day.

As Women’s Month continues, may we carry its meaning beyond 9 August. Let us continue to value, support and celebrate the women who teach, encourage, lead and inspire those around them.
